Why

Access to healthcare is critical. Providers, their staff and organizations work tirelessly to care for patients. Public and private payers spend countless resources on medical care and administrative costs. And, despite these resources, medical care is delivered in a system that is not provider or patient-friendly, often with suboptimal outcomes. Some in our communities lack access to routine medical care at all.

Researchers and policymakers have innovative, evidence-based ideas to improve the system, but it can be challenging to bring them to action in a sustainable manner.

We can do better.  My small business was born out of the desire to link policy and practice through pilot projects, programs and practical initiatives that improve access to medical care.

About Me

Ana Alvarez, Independent Consultant

After years working on healthcare facility planning, design, and operations, I wanted to use my knowledge of how care is delivered and draw upon it to improve the overall system. My familiarity with the unique constraints of how medical care is accessed allows me to design and implement strategies and programs that are practical and sustainable.

I have collaborated with and worked on behalf of health services and public health organizations, including community clinics, federally qualified health centers, public and private health systems, payers and federal agencies.  I am both an empathetic investigator and a systematic problem-solver. My goal is to bring to fruition pilot projects, programs and initiatives that improve the healthcare system. Change in healthcare happens incrementally. Whether it’s developing technical assistance materials, gathering and summarizing stakeholder feedback, or designing and implementing a roadmap for a new initiative, I want to collaborate with you to make change possible.

My experience includes over fifteen years in the industry, along with a Master’s in Healthcare Administration from UNC Chapel Hill (Go Heels!).  I am proud to serve on the Arlington Free Clinic’s Board of Directors and as the Arlington representative to the Health Systems Agency of Northern Virginia.
